Debit Memos in Canada - Improvements expected in 2018

Dear Members,

Through ACTA’s participation in IATA’s Agent Debit Memo Working Group (ADMWG) and the Agency Programme Joint Council (APJC), it was learned that Canada has one of the highest debit memo instances in the world. Considering the negative financial impact on our members in both time and resources, ACTA put this at the top of our advocacy agenda. One key contributor to the high number of debit memos issued in Canada is related to the manual process of calculating and entering commissions in the Billing & Settlement Plan (BSP). In most other countries, these calculations are automatically generated, but in Canada, the calculations are manually entered. ACTA has been working with and lobbying IATA to take action on this issue immediately. We’re pleased to announce to our members that a newly improved, and automated technological solution is now in the works with an expected roll out of September 2018.

Special thanks to ACTA Member, Gary Gaudry, President of Maritime Travel for working with ACTA to identify potential solutions that will have a positive outcome for travel agencies across Canada!

We will continue to closely monitor and report on this matter.
