Safe travel advice and international travel implications of cannabis legalization
Cannabis became legal in Canada on October 17, 2018, bringing with it many questions amongst travelling Canadians. In efforts to prepare and provide the travel industry with the most updated and relevant information with regards to cannabis regulations and legislations, ACTA conducted a webinar with Genevieve Angers from Global Affairs Canada, on September 26, 2018, entitled “Global Affairs Canada: Safe travel advice and international travel implications of cannabis legalization”. This webinar was well received with 124 participants in attendance. In case you missed it, you can view this webinar on demand directly from our ACTA Campus or in our Members Only Section on the ACTA Website.
Please note that in addition to the webinar, the following information will be helpful to your travelling clients:
- For Canadians leaving Canada, we understand that it is illegal to travel with cannabis in any shape or form. This includes products such as CBD oil. So unfortunately, for travelling abroad, they should not bring CBD oil.
- For Canadians using cannabis for medical purposes, it is possible in very rare cases to get a letter of exemption for import into Canada. Individuals seeking information about cannabis for medical purposes can contact Health Canada with this new address: cannabis@canada.ca
