Remembering Hassa Mirchandani – ACTA Member, Bytown Travel, Ottawa

With heavy hearts, we share the passing away of Hassa Mirchandani, beloved owner of Bytown Travel in Ottawa. A stalwart ACTA member for 47 years, Hassa was deeply dedicated to his agency and the team he built. His passion for travel never wavered—he worked tirelessly daily, and continued running his agency until 2024, at the remarkable age of 90.

Hassa will be remembered for his boundless energy, utmost kindness and unstinting generosity. Whether offering a job, a connection in the travel industry, or simply a helping hand, he was always there for those in need. He had an incredible gift for bringing people together, never hesitating to say, “Oh, I know someone who can help you with that,” followed promptly by, “Send me your resume!” His warmth, laughter, trust, curiosity, and unmistakable sense of humor leave a lasting impression on everyone he ever met. If you ever met a raconteur par excellence – it was Hassa!

A true pillar of his community, Hassa knew everyone in Ottawa—and more importantly, he made it his mission to know and uplift those around him. His legacy of kindness and connectedness will always inspire us.

Rest in peace, Hassa. You’ve earned your wings in the travel industry and then some. May your light continue to shine on us from above—you will be deeply missed.
